DIY gin bar at the wedding

A DIY gin bar at the wedding does not take up much space and is quick to set up. You really only need a table on which you can place the required utensils. However, the table should be on the edge and not quite so central, so that your guests can help themselves at the bar in peace and under no circumstances block the space.

For your gin bar, all you need next to the table is the gin, a few glasses and, if you like, a small standee printed with the gin bar. Either you buy the gin for your DIY gin bar at the wedding as a finished product, or you make your own gin.

Make your own gin

It is a particularly nice idea when the bride and groom make their very own gin for the wedding. You don’t need much (apart from time) to prepare your own gin.

  • Neutral tasting vodka
  • juniper berries
  • Empty bottle
  • funnel
  • sieve or filter
  • spices

You can buy everything individually, or you can use a ready-made set. The juniper berries are particularly important, because only with these can the end result actually be called gin.

DIY gin instructions

The photos shown here are from the autumn boho wedding in the greenhouse. There, wedding speaker Ellaine had the idea that the bride and groom mix their very own wedding gin. This is not difficult at all and only takes a few steps:

  1. Prepare vodka with juniper berries and leave for 24 hours
  2. Add spices and botanicals and leave for 12 hours
  3. Filter the gin (the spice particles must also be removed)
  4. Leave the gin to rest for some time (possibly a week).

As already described, you need 750ml of neutral-tasting vodka as a base, in which you fill 2 teaspoons of whole juniper berries. After 24 hours the vodka has taken on the taste of the juniper berries and you have the base of your gin. Now you can add any spices and botanicals to the vodka-juniper mixture and let it steep for another 12 hours. The longer the blend steeps, the stronger the flavors of your blend will become.

Finally, all you have to do is filter your gin. First pour it through a sieve and then through a coffee filter to filter out even the smallest particles. Your DIY gin is ready.

Gin for the wedding

If you prepare your own gin for the wedding, then you are welcome to use spices and botanicals that go well with you as a bridal couple. Each botanical could fit a character trait or commonality of the bride and groom. Cardamom, for example, tastes spicy and sweet and has a slight spiciness. Perhaps appropriate for someone who appears tough on the outside but is gentle on the inside.

You could also include the addition of the botanicals as a kind of wedding ritual. Of course, you can’t drink this right away because it still has to steep, but you could point out the gin bar at the wedding at this point.

No matter what style you choose, a gin bar at the wedding is sure to wow your guests. It is also very suitable for a gentleman’s bar at the wedding with drinks, cigars & more.
