Not as many marriages take place in winter as in the warm season. But a winter wedding can be particularly magical. A cozy open fire and a ballroom decorated like a winter wonderland create a wonderfully romantic ambience. In addition, a winter wedding allows guests to have completely different and even more outfits. Not only the bridal couple, but also the guests can wrap themselves in more clothes and thus create particularly stylish looks. And the most important thing is: the outfits for winter weddings not only have to be elegant, they also have to keep you warm. We have collected some great tips for you!
Outfits for men at winter weddings
Of course, male wedding guests wear a suit, just like in summer. But instead of light cotton or linen, dense wool fabrics are popular. Natural colors such as dark beige or an elegant shade of gray are ideal for weddings at this time of year. But men can’t go wrong with a suit in dark shades of blue either. The shirt should be color coordinated with the suit. Ties, bow ties, handkerchiefs and the like are ideal for setting accents and stylishly rounding off the look. They are also wonderfully suited for a few fresh splashes of color in the outfit for the winter wedding. By the way, a winter wedding is a good opportunity to wear a three-piece suit, i.e. to combine suit trousers and a jacket with a waistcoat. This warms the upper body and it also looks really chic.

Even if a winter wedding will probably take place mostly indoors, there are always moments when the bride and groom and wedding guests are outside. It doesn’t matter whether you go outside for wedding games, for a group photo or for a walk after dinner, it gets too fresh in a suit alone. A warm, chic coat can help and is definitely more suitable for a wedding than a sporty winter jacket. But an elegant sweater is also allowed. As long as it is a high quality model with a classic design, it is suitable for a wedding. Winter weddings are usually kept cozy anyway and decorated with furs, for example. Wedding guests fit perfectly into this scenery with beige cable-knit sweaters, wintry Norwegian sweaters or knitted sweaters with Troyer collars. But put the shirt collar over the pullover. That looks a lot more elegant.
Depending on how thick the sweater is, the jacket can also be worn over it. Voilà, a great outfit for the winter wedding is ready. Because, in fact, the well-tried onion look keeps you extremely warm. An air cushion is created between the individual layers of clothing, which provides additional thermal insulation. A combination of shirt, sweater and jacket can sometimes be warmer than just a coat.

Outfits for winter weddings with matching footwear
Leather low shoes or slippers are traditionally worn with a men’s suit. But they are too cold outside in winter. Alternatively, ankle boots are available. They even come in lightly lined versions. Real leather models are also in demand during the cold season. Because they look very elegant. Ankle boots in brown or black complement the outfit for the winter wedding perfectly and are ideal combination partners for the festive suit. To protect your feet from the cold, ???? merino socks are well suited. They keep you pleasantly warm, but are also breathable at the same time, so that it doesn’t get too warm inside so quickly. But also pack sturdy shoes in the car. It is quite possible that there will be program items in the snow.
Matching outfits for women at winter weddings
For women there are beautiful long-sleeved dresses that look festive and protect against goosebumps. A simple dress can be spiced up with trumpet or puff sleeves. Lace decorations and transparent parts also make the dress an elegant fashion statement. But of course the rule also applies in winter: white is reserved for the bride and black is also not so popular. A light shade of lilac or even a dark violet, on the other hand, are excellent options. Incidentally, rhinestones or sequins are never out of place at a winter wedding. However, female wedding guests should not exaggerate and under no circumstances outdo the bride. Appropriately, velvet dresses are also festive and warming at the same time.
Fluffy coats and capes for outdoors
The dress is combined with a warm coat or cape to keep you warm on the way to church or the location as well as during other outdoor activities. Of course, the coat should look chic and not sporty, but skilfully round off the look. Waisted coats made of wool, but also really fluffy coats with a teddy fur look are an excellent choice. A parka or a quilted coat, on the other hand, are rather unsuitable. The coat is complemented by chic accessories. If you opt for a lilac-colored dress, you can combine it with a scarf and gloves in dark purple, for example. A pink dress, on the other hand, goes well with silver, gold or pink accessories.

Two pairs of shoes for the winter wedding outfit
Chic, closed boots or ankle boots are ideal as footwear. They should form a slender foot and not appear too bulky. It is definitely recommended that you take a second pair of shoes with you for inside, otherwise you will definitely get too warm.
