It is not without reason that many bridal couples choose a KRUU photo box for their wedding day. A photo box has several advantages: you have a great activity for your guests and at the same time you will definitely get a lot of great and certainly funny photos from the wedding celebration. We took a close look at the KRUU photo box in the test and wrote this experience report for you.
Why a KRUU photo box?
There are a few different photo box providers. So, of course, the question arises why a bridal couple should choose a KRUU photo box. With over 55,000 customers, KRUU has already proven that they are well versed in the field.
For us, however, it is crucial that there are no hidden additional costs or similar. The photo box you have ordered will be delivered on your desired date, whereby of course you do not have to pay any additional shipping costs for shipping there and back. So if you have decided on a certain package, there are three different, by the way, then you have a fixed price.
But not only the price is important, but also the quality of the camera and the printed photos. You can read below whether this convinced us.

KRUU photo box in the test
If you decide on a photo box from KRUU, then you have to choose the right one for you between three different packages. The following are available:
- KRUU Photo Box Lite
- KRUU photo box Basic
- KRU photo box Premium
With the Fotobox Lite you get a photo box with DSLR (= reflex camera) or similar camera. The lite package lacks the printer, so after your wedding you only get an online gallery with all the photos. In our opinion, a photo box is only half as fun without a printer, so we left this variant out of our experience report and test.
We initially tested the KRUU Photo Box Premium and a few days later the KRUU Photo Box Basic. We had both photo boxes here at home, so that we could test both packages extensively. We will of course describe the differences to you. Of course, both packages have a lot in common:
- Free shipping and returns
- Online gallery with all photos after the event
- Photo box with DSLR camera
- Print out directly on site
- Define the layout of the printouts yourself
- Supplied lighting or flash
- Photo booth props made of paper
The supplied paper props, which are included in both packages, are very nice. Nevertheless, we would recommend you to buy your own photo box accessories for your wedding. There are really great props and accessories for weddings, as you can see in the linked post.
after the order
After ordering your photo box, you can always see all the information you need in the customer portal. Information about the ordered package, instructions for delivery, the layout of the printouts and when the photo box will be picked up again. You can also find the online gallery with all photos there after the photo box has returned to KRUU.
As already mentioned, you can define the layout of the printouts in the customer portal after placing your order. 12 types of collages with three to four pictures per printout are available to you with the KRUU Photo Box Basic. You can either choose one from the available backgrounds or upload your own background. Incidentally, the KRUU Photo Box Premium offers you 32 types of collages with one to four images per printout. More on that a little later.
Order a photo box: this is how it works
KRUU photo box Basic
The KRUU Fotobox Basic is delivered in a package in which you will find everything you need. The assembly is not difficult and can be done in a few minutes, even without instructions. When it comes to cabling and inserting the paper, it is worth taking a look at the enclosed brochure. You have set up the photo box in just a few steps:
- Set up the tripod
- Attach the enclosed tray for the photo printer
- Place the printer on the tray that has just been attached
- Attach the photo box to the top of the tripod
- Place the flash on top of the photo box
- Wire everything together
Once you’ve done everything, you can plug the two plugs (photo box + printer) into the socket and switch on both devices. For the day of the wedding you should definitely pack a multiple socket outlet with a 5 meter cable to be on the safe side. So you are on the safe side if there should only be one socket at the installation site.
The operation of the photo box is completely self-explanatory. Simply press the corresponding icon on the touchscreen and the countdown for the photo starts. The flash starts automatically when the photo is taken. You can then see the captured photo on the screen and you can either edit it with a filter or use it directly as it is for the collage.
Of course, you can also discard a photo you have taken if you don’t like it. As soon as you have taken all the photos for your photo collage, the printout will start. If necessary, you can remove the white edges from the perforated line.
There is space for 18 sheets of paper in the holder on the printer. So you have to add new paper after 18 printouts, but this is done very quickly and easily. The photo box comes with a total of 18 packages of 18 sheets of paper. So you can create 324 printouts.
Should you now have concerns about whether this is enough, then remember that a collage contains at least three photos. If the photo box is in constant use without interruption and you need about 2 minutes for each collage (sometimes just choosing the props and accessories takes longer), then you have enough paper for over 10 hours.
KRUU photo box Premium
If you choose the KRUU Photo Box Premium, you will get all the features from the basic package plus a few other, not unimportant, things. This includes, for example, a photo box insurance or a high-speed photo printer. The speed of the printouts is not that important for us, but the high-speed photo printer has a not insignificant advantage.
The printer of the KRUU Fotobox Premium is delivered in its own package. Not without reason, because it is larger than the standard printer. This is due to the paper roll in the device that is used for the printouts. In contrast to the standard printer, this one does not have individual sheets, but automatically cuts the individual photos from the roll. This means you don’t have to add paper after 18 printouts. We took a few photos during our test and didn’t even have to change roles.
However, there is also a disadvantage. Due to the size and weight of the printer, you need a small side table, as there is no holder on the photo box for this printer. On the table you could also put the photo booth props made of paper as well as the props contained in the KRUU photo box Premium, matching the wedding theme.
In retrospect, we found three features of the premium package really great that were actually rather unimportant for us in advance. We changed our mind completely!
On the one hand, there are the additional types of collage, where you can only use one photo per printout. Here it is also possible to print out the entire area and without additional text. At the same time, it is possible to create a second, additional layout in the premium package. When you start a new recording, the countdown does not appear immediately, but you and your guests have the option of choosing one of the two layouts. For example, a photo over the entire area, or a collage with three photos. Finally, the included remote release, which you can press with your foot, is really helpful.

Photo box Basic and Photo box Premium in comparison
The KRUU photo box Basic does exactly what a photo box should do at a wedding. You have a great device set up quickly and easily, with which you and your guests will definitely have a lot of fun. If we had never had a direct comparison with the KRUU Photo Box Premium, then the KRUU Photo Box Basic would probably have been completely sufficient for us.
With the Premium Package you have the same device, but it has been expanded to include additional, very useful and helpful features. With the high-speed photo printer, you not only have to refill paper less often, but also have the printouts in your hands faster. We are really enthusiastic about the additional types of collages, with which you have more options when designing the printouts. In combination with the collage change on site, really great.
So you don’t necessarily always have to take a collage with three or four photos and print it, you can also spontaneously decide on a single photo. Here you can of course create and combine both layouts according to your own wishes before sending the photo box.
Conclusion from our experience report
The direct comparison of the Photo Box Basic and Photo Box Premium from KRUU was very interesting for us. Although the photo box itself is the same device, the additional features of the premium package are, in our opinion, worth the extra charge. It is simply more practical not to have to add paper that often. The additional features, such as 100 individual reprints directly on site, convinced us in the end. We also found the quality of the photos with the built-in SLR camera as well as the quality of the printouts to be good and perfectly okay for a photo box.
