Layering look – this is how you are guaranteed to succeed in the fashion trend

The layering look is a stylish topper made up of multiple layers. With these tricks for all figures and inspiration for silhouettes, you will learn from the fashion pro.
What is a layered look?
Layering is the combination of garments of different lengths that are worn one on top of the other in such a way that the individual “layers” remain visible.
This works with waistcoats, long blouses, pullovers, cardigans, pants or coats, which can be layered and combined as desired.
Also popularly known as the onion look, the optical layers create variety in the outfit. In addition, different shades and fabric textures bring depth to the look.

Before you put together an outfit in a layered look:
ask yourself which silhouette you want to create. what suits you Should it be bulky at the top or at the bottom? Do you want to draw attention, e.g. away from the buttocks towards the waist? Or conceal strong arms or emphasize your legs?
When everything is wide and layered, contour is lacking. ONE part of the body should always be narrow/tight. Whatever works: close to the body below and wide above. Focus on waist, hips or slim legs.
Layering look with different fabrics

Fine fabrics such as silk or chiffon go very well with jeans or coarser wool. A lace collar can also look great under a sporty cotton hoodie.
Fur (fake fur also works) combined with leather looks exciting, but it must not be too much, otherwise it will be ostentatious.
It is best to layer rather thin materials on top of each other and combine them with a piece with more volume: for example a knitted cardigan, a jacket, a cape or a coat.
Styling tip: the thickest and stiffest fabric is always worn on top.
Layering look through different proportions

Basic rule when layering: layer either vertically or horizontally, because doing both at the same time looks a bit chaotic. Tall slender women can well divide their silhouette horizontally, as in the photos above in the first row. Shorter and rounder women prefer to layer with vertical lines, as in the second row images. Elongate tone-on-tone layered looks from one color because they visually break up less, making the look appear “longer and taller”.
I recommend you to combine a maximum of 3-4 layers. More quickly looks overloaded and that wears on.
In order to keep the proportions, it is best to style wide parts into narrow ones, eg skinny trousers with a long tunic or a wide, oversized blazer with a tight skirt and top underneath. A large sweater or a longer cardigan goes well with tight jeans, under which an even longer blouse peeks out.

Layering look with knitwear

We all like to wear sweaters and cardigans in the transitional period, why not layer them? You can style a slightly longer shirt blouse under the sweater and let it flash, wear a cardigan with a belt over the dress or wear a fine turtleneck under a summer dress. Longer knitted vests or capes are also suitable for simply throwing on. At the moment there are also many shortened sweaters, they are perfect over long blouses.

Layered look with waistcoats

Whether quilted vests, fur vests or thick plush vests, they warm, are stylish and very practical, especially in the transitional period. You can simply pull your vest over a favorite look, eg over a long dress or jeans and sweater. Especially if the waistcoat is a bit wider, it looks very cool over a thick knit sweater, a silk blouse or even a leather jacket. The layering immediately gives your simple outfit a good dose of sophistication.
Styling tip: If you combine a turtleneck or a coat in the same color scheme with your waistcoat, the outfit looks particularly classy!

Layered look with intensive colors

As a layering beginner, you will probably find looks in more subtle tones easier. Cream and beige, but also dark gray tones and black look particularly classy. These combinations are easier for many people.
As a professional, you can then also combine with pink, green, orange, purple, petrol or other colors. It is best to start with a colored “Above”.

Layering look – this is not how it works:
- Don’t mix too many colors or patterns in one outfit – two to three colors work best and most harmoniously.
2. Combine good basics with an eye-catching piece, otherwise it will be too much.
3. When it comes to materials, pay attention to rather fine, thin fabrics and at most one thick fabric, otherwise it will be too bulky.
4. Let the clothes work for themselves and don’t overload your layering outfit with too many accessories. Simple, reserved jewelery and a pure handbag are completely sufficient.
Tips for little women
If you don’t want to be overwhelmed by the many layers and fabrics, you should definitely keep your outfits slim. So no wide tops with wide bottoms.
Instead, combine tight pants, overknees and emphasize your waist or narrow hips.
Tips for curvy women
Women with a tummy, curvy hips or a lot of breasts in particular can use the layering look with coats, cardigans and waistcoats to optically lengthen their figure. Long, narrow waistcoats, long cardigans and simple, narrow coats are particularly suitable for this. Have fun with your stylish layering looks!
