In the test: short facial workout against wrinkles
With increasing age, the facial features become slacker and the wrinkles more and more. Both make us look tired and older. Regular facial exercises in everyday life should make our likeness look younger and firmer without botox and cosmetic surgery. We wanted to know more about it and carried out a two-week face gym challenge.
A facial workout? Doesn’t sound so stupid when you think about it. Finally, for a toned body, we conscientiously train our muscles in the arms, stomach, legs and buttocks. Only: We usually leave out our face. The facial muscles can also be built up and the cheekbones and chin line can be beautifully defined.
According to experts, targeted and regular face-gym exercises not only strengthen the facial muscles, but also promote blood circulation, oxygen is pumped into the cells and the metabolism is boosted. This in turn has been shown to reduce skin wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles under the eyes while strengthening bones.
Our test result
We wanted to find out for ourselves whether a short daily workout for the face is actually a tried and tested anti-aging remedy, and we set ourselves a two-week face gym challenge with five exercises. Our test result: Not all wrinkles disappeared due to the tightening of the muscles, but we could actually see more defined facial features and a firmer complexion after just a few days. It felt like a mini-lift, which effectively counteracted the slight sagging in the cheek area and on the jawline and neck.
The cool thing about it: Just a few minutes of making faces every day is enough to tighten the skin on your face and fight wrinkles and double chins. Some exercises make you feel really weird. But since the workout can be completed anywhere, there are always moments in everyday life when the exercises can be carried out unnoticed by the environment.
We have put together some of the most effective and easiest exercises for you below. It is best to repeat them several times throughout the day. This is how you achieve the best effect. And so that the facial muscles are properly challenged, you can exaggerate the respective facial expressions.
Tight jaw line
This exercise is very simple. Just stick your head out and your tongue out.
For this exercise, place your fingertips on your cheek and gently pull the skin toward your ears. Then stretch your tongue as firmly as possible towards the tip of your nose and hold this position for 10 seconds (you should feel a tug on your chin). Repeat 10 times. A small “drum massage” on the skin finally ends the small training session for a defined chin line.
Strengthening of the cheek area
If you do the fishface regularly, your cheeks will be tightened and beautifully defined. Simply “suck in” your cheeks and purse your lips. Hold the position for 10 seconds and repeat the exercise 5 times a day.
This very effective exercise trains the muscles in the chin and cheek area. Take a deep breath and as you breathe out slowly, pretend you are swishing a mouthwash or water back and forth in your mouth. The lips must be pressed together. Rinse for 20 seconds and repeat 3 times a day.
Bye, bye chubby cheeks
If you are striving for a slimmer portrait and want to get rid of your chubby cheeks, you should chew gum from time to time. This effectively tightens the lower part of the face.
Reduction of wrinkles around the mouth
Every woman and every man will discover them on their face as they get older: the vertical lines that form above the upper lips. Laughter is an effective exercise against the unsightly wrinkles around the mouth. Because by pulling the corners of your mouth outwards, you achieve a counter-movement to the formation of wrinkles, which tightens the skin above the upper lip. A relaxation massage with a roller can also prevent or reduce mouth wrinkles (see below).

Finally, you can achieve wrinkle reduction and a beautifully defined face in addition to facial gymnastics with neck and face massages. For this we use a facial oil and a jade roller (e.g. available here), with which we roll over the facial skin from the inside out. Of course, you can also gently massage the oil or cream into your face and neck with your fingers.
The massage not only stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic fluids, but also transports toxins and deposits from the tissues, which in turn reduces swelling and wrinkles on the face.
