“Which hotel in Bali do you recommend?” is one of the most common travel questions we get asked. And of course there are numerous accommodations all over the island, which we have come across in all our Bali trips over the past nine years. In 2022 we already shared our favorites in Canggu with you, today the Uluwatu Edition follows.
The Bukit Peninsula is in the very south of Bali and Uluwatu is one of our absolute favorite spots. At the southernmost tip of Bali are not only the most beautiful beaches on the island, but also impressive cliffs and one of the most popular temples. Bali is at its best in Uluwatu, the west of the peninsula has a wonderfully relaxed vibe and, incidentally, is home to some of the best restaurants, beach clubs and boutiques. We would now like to answer the question with which we started this article!
Our hotel tips in Uluwatu on Bali (in different price ranges)
Terra Cottages, from 90 euros per night
The Terra Cottages with 21 rooms opened a year ago directly above the popular Bingin Beach. In the charming boutique hotel, elements of a Moroccan riad meet Balinese flair. A wonderful combo! A special detail: you can have breakfast either in the small restaurant or on the terrace of your own cottage.
The Asa Maia, from 250 euros per night
“Wellness for your mind, body & soul”. Also just a year ago, the boutique hotel The Asa Maia opened in Uluwatu – in the immediate vicinity of some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. A small oasis of calm with ten guest suites, a lovingly detailed, authentic interior that merges with the tropical vegetation, and a unique wellness concept. A very special hotel that values the culture of the island and is connected to nature. The perfect place to arrive in Bali, to shake off the stress of everyday life, to unwind and immerse yourself in the island’s atmosphere. It is not without reason that “The Asa Maia” is high on the list of our favorite hotels worldwide.
Six Senses Uluwatu, from about 600 euros per night
If you would like to treat yourself to a very special hotel by the sea at the end of a Bali trip, then we can heartily recommend the Six Senses Uluwatu. Located on top of the cliffs, the rooms are terraced and offer guests breathtaking views of the horizon. A highlight at sunset: “The Cliff Bar” with a spectacular location on the edge of the cliffs. The bar is also open to non-hotel guests.
As in all other resorts of the luxury hotel group, sustainability plays an essential role in the Six Senses Uluwatu. Among other things, it has its own vegetable garden, waste is recycled using innovative methods and the hotel’s planned access to the sea was not built because turtles nest at the foot of the cliffs. By the way, with a bit of luck you can watch the turtles from the bar.
