Either accidentally or out of fear, the baker forgot to add some flour to the cake batter. Surprisingly, however, the result was not only perfect, but everyone tasted it delicious. This is how, due to an unintentional mistake, what is now the most popular dessert on the island of Capri was created. The Italians call it tarta caprese. The original of this chocolate cake consisted of only five ingredients, which were chocolate, butter, eggs, almonds and sugar. Today there are different variants of the Italian cake preparation, so that you always come up with new flavors.

The recipe for a classic chocolate cake without flour
As we wrote above, this chocolate cake can be prepared quite quickly. The dessert is ready within 45 minutes. Take a springform pan (26 cm in diameter) and get started!
For that you need the following ingredients: 200g chocolate, 200g butter, 4 eggs, 200g sugar, 200g ground almonds, 1 sachet vanilla sugar, ½ sachet baking powder, 1 pinch salt and icing sugar for dusting.
This perfect result can be achieved with just a few ingredients but no flour.
And this is how it’s done:
- Break the chocolate into pieces and melt together with the butter, preferably over a water bath.
- Then mix this chocolate-butter mixture with sugar and ground almonds. Add baking powder, vanilla sugar and a pinch of salt. Finally stir in the eggs. If the dough looks a bit runny, you can add 2-3 tablespoons of almonds and stir in.
- Pour the finished chocolate batter into a baking pan. Line the springform pan with parchment paper and place in the preheated oven. Bake the chocolate cake without flour for about 40 minutes at 160 °C (fan oven at 140 °C).
- Then let the cake cool down. Don’t be alarmed if the baked cake is a bit sticky inside.
