Instructions for a DIY Mother’s Day gift “For Mom”
For the DIY Mother’s Day gift “For Mom” you need:
- Pot plant of your choice with flower pot
- Pencil, scissors, glue
- Heart-shaped paper punch
- Wrapping paper, tissue paper, etc.
Print out the letters “For Mama” in a color of your choice on white A4 paper. If you don’t have a printer, you can of course also paint or stamp the letters on paper. Make sure you leave enough space between each letter so that you can cut out the pennants.
For the individual pennants, cut out a small template from a piece of cardboard. You can determine the size individually – depending on how big you want your pennants. First, draw a mirror-inverted pennant on a piece of cardboard so that it can be glued together later. In the second step, use the template and a pencil to draw the pennants around the letters on the printed out paper. Then cut them out with scissors and fold the pennants in the middle. If the edges protrude a little at one point, you can still trim them cleanly. Then cut out two “blank” pennants from the remaining paper. In the next step, the hearts will be glued onto these.
For the hearts on the pennants, punch out small hearts with a paper punch (as many as you would like to stick on the pennants). You can find such punches in well-stocked craft stores. With a steady hand, you can also carefully cut out the hearts. Then glue the hearts onto the white pennants. We recommend that you use red cardboard, as this will give you more stable hearts that are a little easier to work with.
Once you have cut out and folded all the pennants, you can hang them on the string. We used thin wire to hang it up. You can also attach the pennant to any sturdy string. Place the individual paper pennants on the string in front of you to determine the distances.
Then carefully glue the pennants together. Make sure that the pennants are exactly on top of each other. The advantage of a thin wire is that you can bend the letters a little individually and thus control the direction. After that, you can take care of the decoration of the potted plant.
Your imagination is left free. We decided on a decorative paper with a small flower pattern. Alternatively, you can also use wrapping paper or tissue paper or paint or spray the flower pot individually. The nice thing about this DIY Mother’s Day gift is that you can customize it to your liking. With this example we’re just showing you one way it might look. You yourself know best what your dear mom likes and what she is most happy about.
If you decide to border the flower pot with paper, simply place the flower with the planter in the middle of it, fold over two sides so that they reach exactly to the edge of the planter and carefully wrap / fold it around the pot . For a better hold on the flower pot, carefully stick the paper in place with adhesive tape. Alternatively, you can tie a bow with a nice ribbon and secure the paper in this way. The DIY Mother’s Day gift “For Mom” is almost ready and only needs to be finalized. To do this, stick the paper straws offset into the flower pot. Since our plant is a little higher in the example, we glued two paper straws together with transparent adhesive tape and then shortened them to the perfect height. When you have found it, just attach the pennant chains and the DIY Mother’s Day gift “For Mom” is ready 🙂 We hope you enjoy doing handicrafts!
