On October 31 it’s Halloween again and today we present you a great fitting DIY tip: an autumnal pumpkin vase! The pumpkin vase is a great eye-catcher in the apartment or in the garden and can be tinkered in no time with little material and little effort! Simply place your favorite cut flowers in the pumpkin – they are naturally watered and last as long as they would in a normal flower vase.
For the vase you will need:
- a pumpkin of your choice
- an empty tin can
- fresh cut flowers
- Water, a knife and a spoon
When choosing the can, please ensure that the size of the can matches the pumpkin. In our case, we chose a rather small pumpkin and, accordingly, the smallest tin can on the shelf. Make sure that the tin can is well washed out and that there are no more residues from the contents. Since the tin can is the container for the water and we do not want the water quality to deteriorate and thus also the quality of the flowers, this step is very important. Of course we want the flowers in the pumpkin vase to shine for as long as in the normal flower vase!
In our example we have chosen a bouquet of Free Spirit roses. When it comes to the choice of cut flowers, there are of course no limits to your imagination. Also our flowers of the week from ours BLOOMY DAYS flower subscription shine beautifully in the pumpkin vase.
Instructions for DIY pumpkin vase
First “head” the pumpkin with as straight a cut as possible and cut off the lid.
Then hollow out the pumpkin by removing the inside and the pumpkin seeds.
Cut off enough of the edge of the pumpkin so that the empty tin can be inserted into the pumpkin. Do this as carefully as possible and slowly work your way towards the correct width.
When you have cut the right width, simply insert the tin can into the pumpkin and fill it with fresh water.
Then all you have to do is cut the flowers to the right length and put them in, place the vase in a nice place and your DIY pumpkin vase is ready!
