Getting married in Mallorca | Everything you need to know in an expert interview

Saying yes in the warm sunshine, on the beach and at sea, is a dream that makes getting married so popular on Mallorca.
Anyone who can imagine a wedding on Mallorca should definitely attend this interesting expert interview with wedding planner Simone braut.TV look at!
Why are Mallorca weddings so popular?

So there are of course a lot of points that speak for the Mallorca wedding: First of all, the sun guarantee. Of course, it can always rain, but there are an unbelievable number of sunny days and the weather security is very different than in Germany, Austria or England.
The sea view is of course also very attractive for many newlyweds to get married on Mallorca. Then the good flight connections, the large selection of hotels in different price ranges. You have mountains, you have sea. There is actually something for everyone.
This whole mixture is what makes getting married on Mallorca so special. Since Mallorca is almost a “German state”, there are many service providers here on the island who speak German or at least English, which is of course important when planning a wedding. That is why Mallorca has evolved into a wedding paradise.
Is it possible to have a wedding in German?

Getting married in Mallorca is of course also possible in German. You can have a church or free wedding in German. There are German pastors and German freelance speakers here who all speak German.
But it is true that there are some service providers – if you have to rent equipment, such as chairs or something – that these service providers sometimes really cannot speak a word of German or English, but only Spanish. That’s why it’s good to have someone on site who speaks Spanish.
What are other advantages of a wedding planner in Mallorca?

I think in terms of language it is really an advantage if you have a German wedding planner for getting married in Mallorca who can speak the languages. So that it is not the case with the “silent post” that something completely different comes out. The bride and groom want pink flowers and in the end they get blue hydrangeas or something.
In my opinion it is also an advantage to have a wedding planner who is really on site. Most of my bridal couples come from Germany, Austria and England, actually from all over Europe. There are always things that you cannot do from there: hand in papers, just drive to the location and sit down again to talk everything through.
In Germany, groomsmen can do something like that, but since they are usually not on site before the wedding on Mallorca, a wedding planner makes sense here.
When is the best time to get married in Mallorca?

In Spanish they say “Para gustos los colores”. That means: everyone has their own priorities.
For me as a half-Spanish woman, July and August are almost too hot to get married on Mallorca.
It is usually most beautiful in June and September. These are also the months that are most booked. May and October are also nice to get married in Mallorca. I always try to recommend the date, depending on the priorities of the bride and groom. You don’t just go by the weather, but also by when the family can fly over here. So there are many factors that influence the timing of the wedding.
I coordinate the wedding planning with the timing. If the celebration is to take place in April, May or October, for example, we will start the ceremony a little earlier so that in the evening, when it gets fresher, you can only sit and eat. When the sun goes down, people are already dancing. So there are just a few points that you have to pay attention to. But I wouldn’t do a ceremony at 3pm in August, for example. Then maybe even in tails or something, then half of the guests get a heat collapse.

Is a civil marriage also possible and is it recognized in Germany?

This is an important question when getting married in Mallorca. You can only get married here in a registry office if at least one of the bride and groom has been registered in Mallorca for three months. You can be registered if you have a rental or purchase agreement here. But that applies to very few.
There is really no way around the fact that one of them has a residence in Mallorca. That is why many bridal couples do it in such a way that they marry civilly in their own country and then on Mallorca church (Protestant or Catholic) – but for this one must have already married civilly in their own country.
Quite often, a free wedding is also held in Mallorca. That is then not officially recognized, but I always say: In terms of emotion, it is often even nicer, because the free speaker adjusts completely to what the bride and groom want. Most of my clients do a free wedding in Mallorca.

Do you also take on partial tasks or always the whole package?

I only offer full support. It can of course always be the case that the bride and groom say they already have the location because they have their own finca, for example, that’s no problem at all.
My only concern is that I don’t just take over the coordination on the day of the wedding in Mallorca. I want to be involved from the start and that everything comes together for me so that I know where sources of error can be and I can avoid them. If I join them on the day of the wedding and am presented with a fait accompli, then I can no longer act the way I want to.
That’s why, as a Mallorca-Princess agency, I really only offer the complete package. But there are other agencies that are simply larger and can perhaps cover several events in one day that they simply take on only partial tasks.
When should you hire a wedding planner in Mallorca?

A year to 9 months in advance is good. Although there is everything: On the one hand, I already have inquiries for over a year from now, but there are also bridal couples who will not contact me until the summer in March. If I have the weekend or the day of the wedding, it can still work. Starting two years in advance would only be necessary for very elaborate weddings. Otherwise a year to 9 months in advance – we then start looking for a location in autumn.
Are there also private fincas to celebrate? What do you have to consider?

I get a lot of requests for weddings on private fincas. Mostly it is wedding groups that come to Mallorca here. Not 300 people, but around 20 to 80 people – because they all come from abroad, of course, a private finca is the best option.
But the topic of private fincas on Mallorca is not that easy, you really have to be careful when looking for a location, because there are a few things to consider.

- First, the owner, the landlord, has to agree that a wedding can take place in the finca. It is always important to clarify this beforehand.
- Second: what about neighbors? Of course, it depends on what you are planning. If the bride and groom want to have a real party – a DJ or live music – until well after midnight, then it is very important to book a completely secluded finca “in the middle of nowhere”, where there really are no neighbors. Because there is a law here on Mallorca that no music can be played outside after midnight and that is a no-go for many bridal couples that the party is over at midnight. If there are neighbors next door, the police might be at the door at midnight.
A very important point, both in private fincas or in a beach club or hotel. 99.9 percent of the time, after midnight, you either have to go to the disco area or whatever the location is. The dream of celebrating under the stars until the early hours of the morning is therefore not that easy to implement. - With a private finca, it is also important to have a plan B, depending on how large the group is. Even on Mallorca it can rain every now and then, so you don’t want to stand in the small kitchen of the private finca with the beef fillet at forty. If necessary, a large living room can help. However, if there are larger groups, you need for the ceremony, the aperitif, the meal, the disco – a total of four areas that have to be there in bad weather. Such fincas can almost be counted on two hands.
Are there any other tips for getting married in Mallorca?

In general, you have to know that flowers are relatively expensive here on Mallorca. A bridal bouquet for 150 € is not uncommon, the bride and groom have to be prepared for this when getting married in Mallorca. Flowers are imported from Holland, which means that flower prices cannot be compared with Germany.
Wedding planning in general – whether it is in Germany or Mallorca – is always a matter of priorities. At the beginning it is important to find the location, everything depends on it.
Do you need catering there or is there a hotel’s own kitchen, etc. Bridal couples should first concentrate on the location, set their priorities and try to find a nice compromise. When you have the location, you can start with the detailed planning. Don’t start at the wrong end.
Another personal tip from me: Don’t skimp on the music. You don’t have to fly David Guetta in, of course, but at weddings the music should trigger emotions. Such a self-made playlist can work for a small group, but a clever DJ makes the whole party perfect.
