Make your own macrame teether
Homemade teething or grip rings as well as dummy chains made of macrame are always gladly accepted as gifts by most new mums. They are not only effective and environmentally friendly, but always have a special personal touch and show affection and attention. Of course, the 100 percent freedom from harmful substances in terms of yarn, color and other components is very important. So when you choose the materials for your DIY macrame projects for babies, you should focus on the best quality and optimal environmental friendliness. Always look for a well-established certificate, such as Oeko-TEX® Standard 100, to be on the safe side. If you use wooden parts, these should be free of splinters and not varnished. Exceptions are paints and varnishes that are completely natural and completely harmless when they come into contact with the baby’s mouth or skin.
There are wooden rings in different shapes
You need:
- Light indigo cotton t-shirt yarn or macrame yarn
- Natural wood teething rings
- 25mm wooden beads
And it’s that easy:
- Cut two pieces of yarn, each 150 cm long. Tie them to the wooden teether with lark head knots.
- Create a half square spiral knot. Continue weaving a chain of these knots until you reach the desired length.
- Thread a wooden bead onto the two middle cords. Tie a square knot under the bead using all four cords. Finally, tie a regular knot with the cords and trim the ends. Finished!

Macrame baby mobile
Giving away a mobile for the baby that was knotted yourself… a really great DIY gift idea! However, really beautiful macrame mobiles require a lot of experience and patience. But if you have already knotted macrame and are very familiar with the basic knots, then it is worth trying.

Make your own baby swing
For all advanced crafters who love macrame, this DIY swing project is an exciting challenge. For this you not only need the actual macrame yarn, but also wood material – a plate for the seat and four round slats for the actual swing frame. The swing is attached to the ceiling using a so-called thimble so that the baby can swing absolutely safely. Of course, it’s safest never to leave this one unattended. Also, make sure you have a soft and thick mat or blanket under the swing.
