Winter riding season is ON

Who would have thought it, but 2020 will be the year in which I’ll get on the saddle even when the temperature is below 10 degrees. Of course, that mainly has to do with the fact that I also stocked up on warm, windproof and waterproof products for the first time.

Since the middle of this summer I have been working with the Dutch brand “AGU”, which has long since made a name for itself in its home country under the motto “everyday riding”. They have been on the market in Germany since this year and the mix of commute, entry-level, retro and premium products immediately convinced me. Regardless of whether you want to be dry and safely equipped for the daily commute to work on your bike or whether you are planning a tour of Germany: everyone will find what they are looking for here – and at a more than convincing price-performance ratio.

Anyone who rides a bike in winter needs one thing above all: visibility. In order to be really safe on the bike, you should always pay attention to sufficient visibility not only in the dark, but also in twilight, fog or a dark cloud layer. Here’s one for one front and rear lightingbut also reflective clothes and/or details mandatory. I’ll be honest: I don’t want to attach reflectors to the spokes or anywhere else on my racing bike, so I rely on reflectors on my cycling clothing: In the “High Visibility” collection, both the vest and the wind jacket have an all-round look 360° reflective printthe trousers have reflective details in the calf and shin area.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s up the mountain or a lap along the Isar: If I take a break somewhere, then I take it dry change of clothes with. Even if the back pockets of most jackets have enough space to stow away – I ordered a saddle bag for road cycling, in which I can stow everything without any problems – snacks also fit in by the way 😉

My personal highlight of the collection is definitely this heated thermal jacket.Wind and water resistant and equipped with a heating system that keeps you warm for up to 6 hours! Additionally is on the Back an LED light integrated, which ensures even more visibility. This means that even the most stubborn person has no more excuses!

By the way are for me gloves and overshoes now mandatory. Once your feet and/or hands are cold, it’s really hard to get them warm again and the ride is half the fun. Wind and waterproof products are simple tools – in the best case, of course, also with reflective details like here.

On beautiful autumn days, long-sleeved jerseys with a vest are perfectly adequate for me, but I equipped the girls with a thermal jersey and jacket (it even has a stowable lining) – these are of course also windproof and water-repellent.

In addition to the racing bike collections, there is also a commuter collection, as briefly mentioned at the beginning: Perfect for everyone who rides a (city) bike in rain and storms. Luckily, I personally don’t have a particularly long commute to work and only get on my bike to pick up pizza or see a doctor – the waterproof rain parka is completely sufficient for me here. But if you are interested in full equipment such as rain trousers, jackets and helmets, you will find more than what you are looking for at AGU.
