It’s often the little things that draw special attention. The “Betty” top from our “inspiration” magazine provides that certain something with a sophisticated back section. The neckline looks rather well-behaved at the front, but the top shows its sexy face from the back. We’ll show you how to sew this top and make the pattern available to you free of charge until the end of the month.
Top sewing – the “Betty” model
The free pattern including step-by-step instructions is available until July 31, 2023 as part of the monthly downloads from “inspiration”. You can find the download link further down in the post.
On closer inspection, this top has even more to offer than the turn-down collar. The small bow on the back underlines the effect, but also provides more stability at the end of the slit.

A look at the magazine…
The pattern and sewing instructions for the “Betty” top come from the summer 2020 issue of “inspiration”.
The focus of this issue is on the new tie-dye look! Whether as a shirt, dress or bikini: Batik patterns are indispensable this summer. If these designs are too unusual for you, but you still don’t want to do without a patterned piece, go for stripes – the selection is huge!

The link leads to the BERNINA website. There the pattern is available for download free of charge after registering for the BERNINA inspiration newsletter during the month of July.
Unzip the ZIP file with the pattern
After downloading you have a ZIP file. In the unzipped folder you will find:
- Sewing instructions with information on ingredients, cutting and sewing process
- Pattern in A4 format. You can print this out with your normal printer at home and glue it together. Make sure you do that
- Patterns are printed out with the “actual size” setting. Use the control square to check whether the printout is the correct size.
At this point the precautionary note: By clicking on the download button, the ZIP file is automatically downloaded to your computer. You then have to unzip it to get the PDF pattern. On Windows, this works by right-clicking on the file and clicking on the menu item “Extract all”. On the Mac, you unpack ZIP files by double-clicking with the left mouse button.
Usually, download files are automatically loaded into the Downloads folder; However, this depends on the operating system, the device used and your local settings. If you are downloading with your smartphone and cannot find the file or cannot unzip it, please try using a desktop computer.
