You may remember them from the past – the crop tops from the 90s are back! The must-have of the time is now more popular than ever. It is worn in a wide variety of styles, from ultra-short to hip-length. We present you a “cropped shirt” that is short enough to show a bit of belly or waist as part of our series of freebies from the “inspiration” magazine. The “Vio” shirt with a rolled hem and small statement embroidery shines in bright yellow.

Sewing Crop Top – “Vio”
Rolled hems are all the rage! On the “Vio” crop top, these were sewn from bulky yarn in a contrasting tone to enhance the look of the hems.
A small embroidered lettering “Weekend, I’m ready for you” adorns the basic shirt. The embroidery is available to you free of charge throughout the month of March as part of the inspiration freebie. You can find the download link further down in the post.
The crop top is sewn from a rib fabric, more precisely from rib jersey fabric – the fabric for the ultimate feel-good factor. Thanks to its elasticity, this jersey fabric is also ideal for sewing body-hugging outfits such as the “Vio” top.
A look at the magazine…
The instructions and the pattern for the “Vio” shirt come from the 03/2021 issue of “inspiration”. More great sewing projects are waiting for you in the magazine, for example a jersey dress, a teddy jacket, a festive blouse with a matching clutch and much more. The issue focuses on comfortable materials, timeless cuts and uncomplicated styling. The magazine is all about cosiness and a sense of well-being – but sets many fresh accents – one of which is the yellow crop top “Vio”.

Unzip the ZIP file with the pattern
After downloading you have a ZIP file. In the unzipped folder you will find:
- Sewing instructions with information on ingredients, cutting and sewing process
- Pattern in A4 format. You can print this out with your normal printer at home and glue it together. Make sure that you print out the pattern with the “original size” setting. Use the control square to check whether the printout is the correct size
At this point the precautionary note: By clicking on the download button, the ZIP file is automatically downloaded to your computer. You then have to unzip it to get the PDF pattern. On Windows, this works by right-clicking on the file and clicking on the menu item “Extract all”. On the Mac, you unpack ZIP files by double-clicking with the left mouse button.
Usually, download files are automatically loaded into the Downloads folder; However, this depends on the operating system, the device used and your local settings. If you are downloading with your smartphone and cannot find the file or cannot unzip it, please try using a desktop computer.
