My favorite clothing care tools

Maybe you’ve already read that I’ve set myself a closet challenge for this year. #NOTHINGNEW22 – This year I’m not buying any new clothes or accessories at all. For this I sew a few favorite pieces – and I take better care of everything I already have. I’ve already been able to breathe new life into some clothes by repairing and adjusting them! However, this blog post is supposed to be about something else: namely about everyday clothing care and some favorite tools, who help me to ensure that all the items in my wardrobe are in good condition. Signe from Use less put it so beautifully: Opening your closet should feel like shopping at your favorite boutique. And finally all the clothes there are ironed and clean, no missing buttons or pilling, right?

1. I’ll admit it: since I’m not spending any money on clothes and accessories this year, I treated myself to a few little helpers that make looking after my wardrobe even more fun. A few parts – like that lint razor – have accompanied me for years.
2. With some sweaters, however, the lint razor is powerless, which is why I asked you on Insta for your tips. I was so surprised how often the miracle brush* was mentioned! And because I’m so enthusiastic about it, I’m happy to recommend it here. With this brush you can remove fluff and pilling from sweaters, jackets and coats without damaging the fabric or knit fabric. The miracle brush is also an essential helper if you have pets and don’t want to constantly use those sticky disposable lint rollers.
3. The Philips* steamer is brand new in my small collection of closet maintenance tools. I hate ironing, but I love my viscose and tencel dresses and blouses. That’s what he’s for steamer just perfect! After washing, I use it to steam the parts into shape – at a child-safe height, hanging on the door or closet door. For me it fits so perfectly and the iron (including the ironing board) can stay in the closet. The steamer is also perfect for on the go, because it can be folded up and stowed away in a small bag. The products from Steamery* were also often recommended to me.
4. Needle, thread and buttons are representative of all the love and time that it takes for a well-groomed wardrobe. Mending a small hole here, sewing on a loosened button there – it’s best if you make these small repairs in a timely manner. Your clothes will thank you with a long life. If you don’t have time yourself: take the parts to the alteration shop. replacement buttonswhich come with clothes, I collect in a large storage jar in my closet.
5. The herbal leather care balm from Kaps recently moved in with me and I really enjoyed caring for my bags and shoes with a soft cloth and the lotion. Years ago I wrote an article about the care of leather shoes, which is still largely mine shoe care– Routine conforms.

PRO TIP: A delicate scent could create the right boutique feeling when you open your closet. Perhaps you would like to place a lightly scented soap or some dried sprigs of lavender in one of the compartments? A lavender scented sachet can also be hung on a clothes rail. Win-win: Moths don’t like to smell lavender at all.

Tips for a tidy closet

An exciting question about wardrobe organization reached me on Instagram. Someone wanted to know what I do with items that I’ve worn once but haven’t washed yet. The person said that these things would always cause a chaotic pile of laundry and cause them to wear the same clothes over and over again because they felt like they had to put on the clothes they had already worn first. In general, the topic of wardrobe organization deserves a separate blog post on occasion.

But I can tell you one thing about this topic: I only have clean clothes – that’s what smells good and isn’t stained – and dirty clothes. Logically, dirty clothes belong in the laundry or dry cleaning. Clean clothes, regardless of whether they have been worn before or not, are regularly sorted back into the closet according to category. I decide here simply by smell and look for any stains (which are definitely more common now with children than before). I think it helps me to have a manageable selection in the capsule wardrobe that I REALLY wear on this topic too.

Personally, I don’t think much of little helpers like a “dumb servant” or the universally popular clothes chair that my husband likes very much. However, I will admit that some clothes hang on hooks in the bathroom for a few days before I sort them either in the wash or back in the closet.
