I really liked Ubud and should not be missed on your trip to Bali. For example, did you know that Starbucks is the only food chain allowed to open a branch in Bali? Otherwise there are only gastronomic establishments run by locals. This ensures that Bali does not lose its charm and that the locals also get something from the tourists.
Since the whole of Bali is predominantly Hindu, you will find beautiful Hindu temples everywhere. In Ubud, however, the density is certainly the greatest and the temples are the most extraordinary. Almost every residential building has its own small temple in front of the entrance.
TOP 10 UBUD HIGHLIGHTS
1. Rice fields and terraces in Ubud
The most famous (and therefore most touristic) rice fields are in Tegalalang, near Ubud. The place has become one of the most popular spots for Instagram photos.
Although so much rice is grown in Bali, the local harvest is not enough to feed the population and the many tourists. Therefore, Bali also imports large quantities of rice from Java.
2.Monkey Forest
The Monkey Forest in Ubud is a must-see for many travelers! The monkeys here are very used to people and being fed. That’s why they are no longer afraid of us. So you can get very close to the little animals. I can only advise you to be careful, because sThey will try to steal anything left unattended. They are also known to become very aggressive when snapping at food.
3. Visit to the Locavore
If you like real fancy food and have always wanted to visit a starred restaurant, you should reserve a table at Locavore. Relatively expensive for Bali, of course, but very inexpensive for a star kitchen. Those wishing to visit the Locavore must reserve at least 2-3 months in advance. My boyfriend loved it, but it was a bit too fancy for me. ????
4. Balinese massage
Massage studios are generally found on every corner in Bali. You definitely can’t get a 60-minute foot massage for less than €10 at home.
5. Ubud’s Markets and City Center
If you feel like strolling, take some time and visit the markets in Ubud. Bamboo bowls, souvenirs and decorative items are available on every corner for a few euros. So you can simply take the Bali feeling home with you.
6. Rent a scooter in Ubud
With a scooter you are very flexible and can visit everything around Ubud. Depending on where your accommodation is located, it can be quite a hike to the city center. The surrounding area is what makes Ubud so attractive – rice fields, volcanoes, temples and much more.
7. Waterfalls around Ubud
There are several waterfalls around Ubud that you can explore on your own with your scooter. On the one hand there is the well-known one Tegenungan Waterfall, which is a wonderful way to cool off despite the many tourists. It’s a little less busy Tibumana Waterfall and Kanto Lampo Waterfall.
8. Sample local food in the Warungs
Try the food of the locals and visit a night market, for example. Even during the day you will find so-called Warungs on every corner. There you can get dishes for 1-3€.
9. Enjoy the view of the jungle
The perfect view is a hotel with an infinity pool. Incidentally, they are not as expensive as you might think at first glance. You can find great accommodation for little money in Ubud. Ubud only shows off with numerous hotels infinity poolinto which you in the middle of the jungle dive into the refreshing water.
10 Traditional Balinese dance performance in Ubud
Virtually no tourist spending a few days in Ubud can miss a Balinese classical dance performance. We visited a restaurant where you could see a great performance during dinner.
Tip: Of course, you can also travel to Ubud by taxi and let a driver take you to the various highlights in Ubud and the surrounding area. Riding a scooter in Bali is generally not without it, you should be aware of that!
