DIY winter decoration – natural decoration idea for the time after Christmas

Christmas For me, this is the time when I like to decorate a little more than usual. It’s usually uncomfortable outside and there’s nothing left to do in the garden. So there is enough time and leisure to decorate the house. But as soon as Christmas is over, I feel the longing for a certain emptiness. I think that’s probably how it is for most of us. Right? It’s not just in our home that we’re surrounded by all the glittering and sparkling Christmas decorations. Everywhere in stores, in advertising and on Instagram etc. you are literally flooded with stars, Christmas balls, angels and other Christmas characters! It glitters and sparkles everywhere. This sensory overload quickly leads to satiety for me, so that after Christmas I really look forward to desecrating everything again. But it doesn’t work without decoration. That would be too empty and too sober for me. I think it’s a little too early for spring flowers right after Christmas. Although the temptation to put a colorful bouquet of tulips on the dining table is very strong, I’ll wait a while. The first spring flowers can arrive at the beginning of February. Until then, twigs, cones and other natural materials will decorate my home.

Make your own winter decorations from natural materials – this is how it works

The main protagonist of this natural winter decoration is a tree root that I found in the forest. Such roots can often be found in the forest or as driftwood on river or lake banks. Of course, you can also buy such roots from a florist or nursery. I was lucky enough to find a particularly beautifully shaped root. It has the shape of a bowl. That’s why it’s so ideal for this decoration idea with the lantern.

As soon as you have all the materials together, you can get started! First, use hot glue to attach a branch or twig to the tree root. I previously wrapped the branch with a battery-operated string of lights.

Next, place a decorative glass on the root. This can be an ordinary pickle jar or a lantern, which you can brighten up a little with a colorful bow. If the glass doesn’t have enough hold, simply fix it with a little florist’s clay.

You can surround the glass with a variety of branches and roots Cones decorate. I glued a few lavender sprigs from my garden to the root. I really like the delicate sage green of lavender, especially in winter. The branches also exude a pleasantly fresh scent.

Now we line the glass with some moss and put a candle in it. For the winter look, I wrapped an ice crystal garland around the branch. If you like, you can decorate the whole thing with a little artificial snow. So this very simple, yet decorative winter decoration is already finished.

In combination with my snow-covered decorative trees and mini sugar spruces, this winter decoration comes into its own particularly naturally, in my opinion. This decoration will decorate the window here in the dining area for the next few weeks before the first Early bloomers moving in, which I’m really looking forward to now!
