This is the 3rd year that I lend myself to this exercise of fashion report Or shopping balance sheet. A perfect way to take stock of my consumption and to realize if what has entered my dressing room has been useful/qualitative.
As for the previous times, I therefore list acquisitions do this year, whether through gifts or purchases. Let’s go !
9 NEWS IN 2022: 5 PURCHASES AND 4 GIFTS
If we compare with 2020 (=8 purchases including 3 purchases) and 2021 (=13 purchases including 7 purchases), we can say that I remain constant and rather moderate in my consumption of clothing/accessories.
My purchases this year are not the most exciting in terms of style but are found in the field of usefulness or the satisfaction of a passion. So I’ll start my listing with the gifts I receivedby relatives who knew my tastes well, to end up my purchasesmore basic.
ATELIER PARTICULIER SCARF
Pale pink scarf Private Workshop
Gift date : March 2022 (Belated 2022 birthday present from my friend Lionel)
My daily use : This scarf alpaca wool is soft, warm and of very good quality. I mainly wore it at the end of last spring and I’m wearing it again with just as much pleasure this winter. The choice of pale pink color is quite judicious because it allows to enhance my outfits with a certain sobriety, while agreeing with the chromatic palette of my wardrobe (mainly gray, beige, off-white, khaki).
THE L/UNIFORM CAP
Gift date : January 2022 (for my birthday from my darling)
My daily use : Since I have medium-length hair, the cap is one of my favorite accessories to make my outfits more “Sportswear-chic”. This one is perfect because the tone of colors present (khaki and beige) also harmonizes with the majority of my clothes. I like its “American College” aspect. Special mention to the 100% French manufacturing in Caussade (Tarn-et-Garonne) and to its composition (linen/cotton) very pleasant in summer.
“Juan” earrings Sezane
Gift date : January 2022 for my birthday (from my darling = decidedly, I was very spoiled!)
My daily use : I wore them throughout 2022. I had been looking for a pair of fairly large/large hoops and these are perfect. They are gold-plated and slightly hammered, which gives them a touch that is not quite classic. For the moment, they remain well golden and do not darken. That said, if you have any tips for maintaining or recovering the gold plating of a piece of jewelry, I’m all ears!
A “TADAO ANDO” TOTEBAG TRADE PURSE
“Tadao Ando” tote bag Pinault Collection Commodity Exchange
Gift date : June 2022 during a private visit to the Bourse de Commerce
My daily use : Unlike a few years ago, I wear my leather bags very occasionally. On a daily basis, I prefer them the tote bags, lighter and all-terrain. I can put a lot more things in it (compartmentalized in pockets) and don’t have to worry about taking care of them. What was my joy to receive one with top a sketch print by my favorite Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Gray in color, it goes pretty well with the colors of my wardrobe (it’s a change from the off-white and black totebag).
ISSEY MIYAKE SUNGLASSES
EL-2 Round Goggles Issey Miyake
Date of purchase : August 2022
The reasons for the purchase : As I have already explained in this article, I had been looking for years to invest in a pair of quality sunglasses, in a fun, refined and modern style that was more classic and less bulky than my Carlina from Chloé. I came across them during a walk in the Marais, tried them and adopted them.
My daily use : I mainly wore them during my holidays in September and I’m delighted that they harmonize with most of my outfits while remaining light and original. A long-term investment (I hope).
THE BASTILLE T-SHIRT
“Club 57” T-shirt Bastille
Date of purchase : May 2022
The reasons for the purchase : I had seen a special edition of this t-shirt, sold during a London concert by my favorite group Bastille and when its consumer version was released online a few months later, I couldn’t help but crack up. You know my love for this group… and going to see them in concert last November was the impetus for me to adopt this t-shirt in anticipation of wearing it that evening!
My daily use : I do not regret this purchase, more guided by the heart than by reason… even if I nevertheless appreciate the design inspired by Keith Haring (related to the song “Club 57” by the Bastille group) and colors. I’ve only worn it twice so as not to damage it too much, but plan to take it out again on sunny days (the touch of red allows me to make fairly consistent clothing combinations) or during an upcoming group concert.
THE LOTSO TOTEBAG
Lotso Tote Bag miniso and a preview of the type of outfit I can wear at Disneyland Paris (+ a Lotsos attack)
Date of purchase : May 2022
The reasons for the purchase : Once again, heart more than reason guided this purchase. I fell in love with this totebag (far from being a basic, haha) when I went to a store miniso (which is all the same, it must be admitted, the devil in terms of gadgets that are useless and as eco-responsible as a fast-fashion brand… but hey!). The thing is, I love this character Lotto from Toy Story (which is far from being known for its kindness, but that’s another debate!) and that I already have some accessories in its image reserved for my trips to Disneyland. I found this pretty, practical and clever totebag (with its little fluffy tail on the back), so it was naturally adopted!
My daily use : This accessory is one of those that I consider useful for going to Disneyland. I don’t wear it on a daily basis at all (although I could, if I was in the mood) because I save it to add some magic to my visits to the park. When I go there, I like to dress according to a character (I wore this totebag on a Halloween day) so it allows me to bring a bit of fantasy to my outfit while allowing optimal storage of my belongings (unlike the little Lotso plush bag I bought in Japan, which has almost purely decorative functions). In short, a purchase that I do not regret either, which will not be understood / liked by all.tes but nevertheless useful (sporadically, but useful all the same).
MUJI SEAMLESS PANTIES
Date of purchase : April 2022
The reasons for the purchase : The reason more than the heart this time! Quite simply because almost all my panties left me at the same time and I wanted to stock up on comfortable and seamless panties (these are made in japan). They’re not sexy at all (the shape and color couldn’t be more basic, however they remain invisible through light-coloured clothing) BUT am I known to be a sexy person? 😉 And then being comfortable in your clothes is also about being better about yourself and by extension, it’s sexy, isn’t it?
My daily use : I acquired models low waist “midi” and models “High rise” waist (Besides, I only counted these panties in my fashion report for 1 item of clothing, given the little funky side of the thing). After use over several months, I would recommend the midi shape more because the high waist is less comfortable (…at the buttocks, who knows why!). But other than that, I’m satisfied with their fit and comfort.
Right angle sneaker socks MUJI
Date of purchase : April 2022
The reasons for the purchase : Another unglamorous purchase in order to replace my short socks that I usually wear with sneakers in the summer.
My daily use : They have the perfect length (you can hardly see them when I wear them with Converse) AND they don’t slip under the foot when walking (anyone else has had this problem with socks that are too short?). In short, I fully endorse them.
THE AVOIDED PURCHASE
REPAIRING MY NEW BALANCE 420
Sneakers NEW BALANCE 420 (dating from July 2014)
Date of repair : July-August 2022
The reasons for the repair : The back of the trainers was all torn up after several years of service (they are from 2014), the soles peeling off and the uppers dirty/worn out. I was tempted to replace them with a new, more fashionable pair, but my instinct was to have them repaired since the sole was still intact. It cost me almost the price of a new pair (80€).
My daily use : I am satisfied to have resisted the appeal of novelty (even for this price) because after this little bit of renovation (complete cleaning, regluing of the sole, repair of the heel), I think that my sneakers will hold a few more years. This is called a purchase avoided via an extension of the life of his shoes and I’m pretty proud of it.
My fashion consumption remains quite frugal, especially if we compare it to my beginnings as a fashion blogger under the sign of profusion. I have overall all that I need in my wardrobe (although I always have on my radar rain boots but I take my time in this quest) and my build and my style stay pretty much the same from year to year so that helps a lot. I could have skipped over the more fanciful purchases (Lotso or Bastille type) but as long as I derive pleasure or lasting use from it, I consider it a successful acquisition.
Despite everything, I am always very excited to put together an outfit with what I own or to admire new clothing associations in shop windows or on the networks, but the need to owning something new is no longer essential for me. I had given explanations on this Instagram post.
Age, self-knowledge, a certain confidence, ecological concern, the slightest desire to be right on trend or to position one’s physical appearance in the foreground help to channel my purchases.
But as I say each time, this path of reasoned consumption is very personal and depends on multiple social, economic, morphological factors (weight gain or loss) and mental health. The idea is not to feel guilty if you continue to buy 20, 30 or 50 articles per year. The idea is to know if these 20, 30, 50 purchases really satisfy you. The purpose of this type of annual fashion review is to ask yourself about your desires, your needsthe image we have of ourselves to be able to approach a more serene consumption and why not more reasoned.
For your part, have you evolved in this area by doing your fashion review?
